KARACHI — The long-awaited Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project has successfully completed its first phase of construction, marking a significant milestone in Karachi’s urban transport overhaul. The Sindh Government announced that the trial runs for the zero-emission bio-gas buses will begin next month, promising a faster and more affordable commute for over 300,000 daily passengers.
The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is being hailed as the world’s first “Gold Standard” BRT system that runs on renewable energy. In addition to the dedicated bus lanes, the project includes the reconstruction of University Road, complete with modern drainage systems and pedestrian bridges. This development is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city’s most crowded educational and commercial corridor.
