PTI Shadow Budget Proposal: Opposition Demands Salaried Tax Relief and Rs500 Billion Spending Cuts

ISLAMABAD — Shifting away from its previous policy of total non-engagement, the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has officially released its alternative economic proposals for the FY2026-27 budget cycle. The shadow economic framework demands a sweeping overhaul of current fiscal plans, urging the government to double the minimum taxable income threshold for salaried individuals from Rs600,000 to Rs1.2 million annually. Additionally, the proposal calls for capping the petroleum levy at Rs50 per liter, reducing GST to 15%, and restructuring pensions to achieve Rs500 billion in annual state savings.
