ISLAMABAD — Stepping forward to push back against widespread social media claims, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has released an exhaustive media brief outlining the national power sector’s performance. Energy Minister Awais Khan Leghari confirmed that the state-funded power subsidies for protected consumers have more than doubled since 2022, reaching a massive Rs423 billion for the current FY 2025–26 fiscal year. The ministry highlighted that the protected consumer tier—those using up to 200 units—has expanded to encompass 86% of all residential connections in Pakistan, noting that the national average all-inclusive electricity tariff has dropped significantly across all primary consumer categories over the last two years.
