Good News for Pakistanis Working Abroad on Job Visas

There is positive news for Pakistanis working abroad, as the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has directed the government to establish new Protector Offices within the current financial year. These offices play a crucial role in processing essential documentation for individuals traveling overseas on work visas, and the initiative aims to make the process faster, easier, and more transparent.

The committee, chaired by Syed Rafiullah, reviewed the performance of several key departments, including the Bureau of Emigration, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the FIA, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Officials stated that the delay in launching the new offices was due to staff shortages and budget limitations. However, the committee rejected these justifications and strongly instructed that the offices must become fully operational before the end of the year.

Focus on Digitization and Transparency

A major directive from the committee was the complete digitization of the protector-service system. Authorities were instructed to integrate the system with NADRA to simplify identity verification and eliminate the role of middlemen, who often exploit workers.

The committee also urged a faster expansion of the E-Protector online system, which has already been used by approximately 60,000 applicants. They emphasized that many more overseas job seekers could benefit if proper awareness campaigns are launched through SMS, social media, and community outreach programs.

Secure Payment System and Tracking Mechanism

Committee members highlighted the importance of financial transparency, directing that all payments must be processed through official banking channels or approved digital platforms to prevent fraud. They also recommended introducing an online tracking system, issuing official receipts, and creating an efficient complaint resolution mechanism.

Protecting Overseas Workers

These strategic steps are designed to enhance government services, reduce exploitation, and ensure a smoother experience for Pakistanis seeking employment abroad. The committee reiterated that overseas Pakistanis make a significant contribution to the national economy, and it is the government’s duty to support and protect them through better systems and stronger regulations.
