Breaking! CM Maryam Nawaz Announces 25-KM Signal Free Corridor From Islamabad Expressway to Rawalpindi’s Peshawar Road

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a major infrastructure initiative set to revolutionize daily travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The government plans to construct a 25-kilometer signal-free corridor extending from Islamabad Expressway to Peshawar Road, with an estimated cost of Rs30 billion. This project represents one of the most significant urban development efforts for the twin cities in recent years.

The corridor will feature nine underpasses and three flyovers, designed to eliminate traffic signals and alleviate congestion on key routes. This will ensure smoother and faster commutes for thousands of daily travelers between the two cities.

Officials stated that construction work will commence immediately, with an expected completion by April next year, highlighting the government’s commitment to fast-track development.

During the announcement, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that Rawalpindi is experiencing rapid growth under the PML-N government. She credited former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for laying the foundation of progress in Pakistan and noted that this new corridor is part of a broader vision to modernize urban infrastructure.

The project aims to:

  • Enhance connectivity between major residential and commercial areas
  • Reduce fuel consumption caused by traffic congestion
  • Support economic activity and urban mobility
  • Manage the growing population and traffic pressures in the region

This signal-free corridor forms part of a larger urban development plan to improve road networks, enhance safety, and accommodate long-term city expansion. Once completed, it promises faster, safer, and more efficient travel for millions of residents across the Islamabad–Rawalpindi metropolitan area.
